Why Montréal Works for Families Year-Round
Montréal is one of the few Canadian cities that offers meaningful family programming in every season. Summer brings world-class festivals with free outdoor components. Fall offers harvest markets and cultural events. Winter turns the city into a snowy playground with lights festivals and indoor museum days. Spring brings the first outdoor events of the year.
This guide organizes Montréal’s family events by season. Each event has a brief overview and a link to our detailed guide where one exists. For events we haven’t covered in depth yet, we note what’s known and what to check.

Final Thoughts
Montréal offers family-friendly events in every season, for even more ideas, explore our ultimate guide to things to do in Montréal with kids. Summer is the peak — with 15+ festivals, free outdoor shows, and fireworks — but fall harvest events, winter lights festivals, and spring museum days ensure there’s always something to do.
Pro tip: Book accommodation early for July (peak festival season). For winter visits, stay downtown near the underground city (RÉSO) to access museums, shops, and restaurants without going outside.
